Royals Play To Scoreless Tie With Muhlenberg
The University of Scranton women's soccer team had a few good scoring chances, but could not convert, ultimately settling for a 0-0 tie against Muhlenberg at Fitzpatrick Field on Tuesday evening.
The Lady Royals (6-1-3, 1-0 Landmark) outshot the Mules, 16-5, including 12-2 after halftime, but couldn't find the back of the net. Muhlenberg senior goalie Michele Toher (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah) made 10 saves, including three in the overtime periods, to preserve the scoreless tie.
Scranton's best chance came with 2:37 left in regulation when an 18-yard shot by sophomore forward Samantha Russo (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) appeared headed for the corner of the goal, but Toher made a diving save to deny the Royals. Russo had another good chance on a header 2:59 into the first overtime, but Toher again made a diving save for Muhlenberg (4-5-2).
Sophomore goalie Kelsy McAnelly (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) saved all three shots she faced for the Royals.
With the tie, Scranton now leads the all-time series with Muhlenberg, 12-1-3.
The Royals return to action Saturday for Senior Day at Fitzpatrick Field when they host Susquehanna in a Landmark Conference matchup at 3:30 p.m.
