Williamson Sets New Eureka Save Mark at Concordia

More news about: Eureka women's team

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Concordia (Ill.) leading-scorer Alyssa Soulis scored twice in the first 15 minutes, including the unassisted match-winner at the 2:59 mark, leading the Cougars to an 8-0 non-conference victory over the Eureka College women's soccer team, Wednesday afternoon at Concordia Stadium in River Forest, Ill.  Eureka junior goalkeeper Sami Williamson (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central H.S.) made 17 saves Wednesday to become Eureka's all-time save leader with 266 career stops.

Williamson, who leads the SLIAC with 111 saves in 2011, has already surpassed her single-season career-best of 106 set as a freshman in 2009.  She needs another 81 saves this season to surpass Amy Funk's single-season school record of 191 set in 2007.

Soulis scored on a breakaway in just the third minute of the contest to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.  She later made it 2-0 at 14:16 with her second goal of the match on assists from Gorana Micevic and Abby Jest.  Micevic and Haley Graner added first-half tallies to give Concordia (6-5-0) a 4-0 halftime lead.  Jest scored two of the Cougars' four goals after intermission.

Eureka (0-10-0) junior Katie McLaughlin (Eureka, Ill./Eureka H.S.) nearly got the Red Devils on the board with her shot in the fifth minute, but none of Eureka's strikes reached Concordia starting goalkeeper Callie Hasselbring.

Eureka will resume St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play this Saturday when it hosts Principia at 3 p.m. at Traister Field.
