Baldwin-Wallace College Women’s Soccer Team Defeats Penn State-Behrend, 1-0, For Second Time This Season
BEREA, OHIO – Sophomore defender Emily Sanders (Canton/Jackson) scored her first career goal as the Baldwin-Wallace College women's soccer defeated Penn State-Behrend, 1-0, tonight (Wednesday, October 5, 2011) in a non-conference match on the Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium. This was the second meeting of the season for the two teams. The Yellow Jackets defeated the Lions 3-2 in the first game of the season on September 4.
With the victory, B-W improved to 8-4 overall. With the loss Penn State-Behrend fell to 7-4-1 overall.
The two teams battled to a scoreless (0-0) tie in the first half. The Lions had two scoring opportunities but came up short after both shots bounced off the post. Despite the tie, the Yellow Jackets held a 9-6 advantage in shots.
B-W got the lone goal of the game when Sanders scored her first career goal off the direct free kick that went under the Penn State-Behrend goalkeeper at the 87:44 mark.
In net, freshman Claire LoPresti (Bethel Park, Pa.) tallied three saves as she picked up her third victory of the season and her first career shutout.
B-W outshot PSU-Behrend 15-7 and won the corner battle 5-2.
The Yellow Jackets are back will return to Ohio Athletic Conference action on Saturday, October 8 when they will host Otterbein University in the first game of a men's and women's OAC soccer doubleheader at 4:30 p.m. The men's game is slated for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
On Saturday, October 22, the Yellow Jacket men's and women's soccer teams will host Ohio Athletic Conference foe Wilmington College in a doubleheader that will be televised by SportsTime Ohio (STO). This is the fourth straight year that B-W has televised a soccer doubleheader and will put a perfect 6-0 record on the line.
