Grizzlies Escape With 2-1 Win Over DC

More news about: Defiance women's team

The Lady Yellow Jackets women's soccer team dropped a tough 2-1 defeat to Franklin College on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the team's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference record to 1-2.

Franklin wasted no time putting the pressure on DC as it scored the game's first goal in the sixth minute to grab a 1-0 lead.

Defiance was determined not to go into halftime losing and found the equalizing goal in the 37th minute. DC junior Katie Heitkamp gathered a throw in on the left side of the box and dribbled in to about seven yards out where she found the back of the net for the third time this season. The goal ties her for the team lead in goals scored on the year.

Just like the first half, the Grizzlies jumped on the Jackets early in the second and grabbed a 2-1 lead. Franklin's goal came in the game's 52nd minute.

Despite the Jackets' best effort to score another goal to tie the game at two goals apiece, DC was unable to come up with the goods and lost the road match by a final score of 2-1.

The Lady Jackets are next in action on Tuesday, October 11 at HCAC opponent Manchester College. The match will begin at 4:00 p.m.
