No. 9 Cal Lutheran Outlasts CMS to Remain Perfect in SCIAC

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Senior Sinead Vaughan connected with freshman Taylor Will on Cal Lutheran on a first half corner kick to net the only score in a 1-0 home win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday afternoon.

Vaughan, the current assists leader in the SCIAC picked up her eighth of the season when she found Will, the current scoring leader in the SCIAC now with 16 goals in the 31st minute of play.

The CMS defense did all it could holding CLU to a season-low 10 shots but the Athenas became the Regals' seventh shutout victim this year. CMS fired off seven shots led by Lauren Phillips' game-high four attempts.

Goalkeeper Renee Standage made one stop in each half of play improving her unblemished record to 7-0-0. The freshman net minder picked up her second solo shutout of the season.

The victory puts Cal Lutheran three games in front of a current log jam for second place featuring four teams with three losses including Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

Cal Lutheran (11-1-0) will host non-conference opponent UC Santa Cruz (6-4-1) on Sunday, Oct. 9, at 1 p.m.
