THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - A couple of goals scored in near identical fashion proved the difference in a 2-0 home victory for Cal Lutheran women's soccer over UC Santa Cruz on Sunday afternoon.

Box Score: CLU 2, UCSC 0 - F

Jess Armstrong made a run down the right sideline and served in the cross to Nicole Rains near the penalty kick spot in front of the UCSC goal. Rains became the eighth different Regal to net a game-winner this season doing so in the 15th minute of play.

Banana Slugs goalkeeper Monica Chazen made four first half saves including a point blank attempt by Rosemarie Lombardi late in the first half. CLU put five of its seven first half attempts on target but Chazen's effort kept the visiting side within one at intermission.

Lombardi led all players with four shots and her last gave the Regals some breathing room. Mayra Virgen's cross following a run down the right sideline found Lombardi who put away her fourth goal of the season in the 53rd minute.

CLU net minder Tina Hedwall played nearly 65 minutes making three saves before Kristin Bailey finished off the final 25 minutes stopping two shots. The pair's five combined saves are the most by the team in any game this season.

Cal Lutheran (12-1-0) returns to conference play on Wednesday, Oct. 12, at Redlands for a 7 p.m. start.
