Women’s Soccer: Frank’s first career goal lifts Cadets to 1-0 win over Mount Ida
NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Freshman midfielder Alex Frank picked the perfect time to score her first collegiate goal as the Medford, N.J. native broke the Norwich women's soccer team's two-game winless skid with the only goal in a 1-0 win over Mount Ida on Monday in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play.
Frank one-timed a set-up pass from junior forward Brittany Casey at the top of the penalty area and sent a rocket into the right corner of the net past Mount Ida goalkeeper Devan Meeker in the 26th minute.
Norwich (8-2-2, 6-2-2 GNAC) dominated the possession early and often but even with a heavy advantage in shots, the Cadets couldn't find the back of the net again. NU outshot Mount Ida 32-1 and had 11 corner kicks to the Mustangs' zero.
Norwich senior goalkeeper Meghan Kennedy picked up the shutout win without having to make a save. She now is 6-2-1 and has three shutouts on the season. Meeker made 16 saves in the loss for Mount Ida. The Mustangs drop to 2-11 overall and 1-9 in GNAC play.
The Cadets are in action again on Thursday as they travel to Lyndon State for a non-league tilt in their second match of three scheduled for the week. NU wraps up the busy week on Saturday at Suffolk as part of a doubleheader with the men's squad.
