Gators Stay Unbeaten in NCAC Play Following Tie With Kenyon
MEADVILLE, Pa. – Allegheny women's soccer pitched another shutout, but the offense was unable to capitalize on its chances against a solid Kenyon club as the Gators and Ladies settled for a 0-0 tie at Frank B. Fuhrer Field, Saturday night.
The Gators (8-3-3, 3-0-2 NCAC) outshot Kenyon (9-4-1, 2-2-1), 15-5, and authored an 8-5 edge in corners, although neither team was able to boast many great scoring chances. Allegheny did piece together a dominating run during the first overtime period, but its best chance – a ground shot to the far post by Jaymee Wallace was knocked away on a diving lunge by Kenyon keeper Lauren Wolfe.
The Gators got the better of the possession play in the first half, and a great chance by Alex Gordon 20 minutes in, was snuffed out by Wolfe. Allegheny stayed in the offensive third for most of the frame, but a stout defensive effort by Kenyon kept the Gators' attack at bay. The second half was virtually even, with both teams manufacturing modest chances, although Emily Karr saved the game for the Gators after blocking a point-blank attempt by Lindsay Watts with just over 11 minutes left in regulation.
Karr finished with three saves en route to her sixth straight shutout and eighth in nine games. The senior net minder, who orchestrated the seventh-longest shutout streak in NCAA history last season, has managed another long scoreless run that has covered 580 minutes. Wolfe made six stops for Kenyon to help the upstart Ladies snap a two-game slide.
