Westminster (Mo.) Women Break Into The Victory Column
Fulton, Mo. – The Westminster College women's soccer squad picked up its first win of the season with a 3-2 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference home victory over Spalding University Saturday on Westminster Field. With the win, the Blue Jays stand 1-11 overall and 1-3 in league play.
Senior Courtney Luebbert (Jefferson City, Mo./Helias) got Westminster on the board midway through the first half. Spalding (2-11, 1-5 SLIAC) tied the score a few minutes later, but senior Katie Denning (Jefferson City, Mo./Jefferson City) gave the Blue Jays the lead to stay in the 29th minute. Sophomore Megan Gunnels (Ozark, Mo./Ozark) tallied what proved to be the game winner early in the second half, and after Spalding scored in the 78th minute, the Blue Jays held on for victory. Junior Courtney Howe (Ladue, Mo./Ladue) recorded four saves to get the win in goal.
