Vaughan Tabbed SCIAC Athlete of the Week

More news about: Cal Lutheran women's team

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Sinead Vaughan of the Cal Lutheran women's soccer team was named the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Female Athlete of the Week.

Official Release: Vaughan Named SCIAC AOW

The senior midfielder contributed an assist in all three matches this past week and scored in back-to-back weekend contests as the Regals won three road games in shutout fashion.

Vaughan was one of 11 different players to score during the team's 16-0 victory over Mills on Saturday, Oct. 15. She also contributed an assist as Cal Lutheran scored a program record 16 goals in the win.

On Sunday at UC Santa Cruz she scored the game-winner in the opening minute of the contest and later assisted on the second Regals goal. To begin last week's action she provided one of her SCIAC leading 11 assists as Cal Lutheran defeated Redlands on Oct. 12.

As of Sunday's victory Vaughan currently ranks sixth in all of Division III with 11 assists. She needs only two more to equal and three to break the program's single-season record of 13 set by Carla Crawford in 1994.

Vaughan is the third different CLU women's soccer player to earn the conference honor this season. Junior Kristin Cameron earned it during the opening week of competition (Sept. 3-11) and freshman Taylor Will received the honor later that month (Sept. 19-25).

Cal Lutheran (15-1-0) is currently ranked No. 11 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll and No. 8 according to D3Soccer.com.

The Regals will host La Verne on Wednesday, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m. A draw or win will clinch a berth into the SCIAC Post-Season Tournament semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 3.

Cal Lutheran previously defeated La Verne on the road by a 5-0 result back on Sept. 24. The Regals have won nine of the previous 10 meetings against the Leopards including the six most recent matchups.
