Edgewood College's Gerry nets second Academic All-District honor
MADISON, Wis. – One of the nation's leading scorers in women's soccer also ranks as one of the best in the classroom. Edgewood College junior forward Elaine Gerry was named to the Capital One Academic All-District team for the second consecutive season. Gerry was the leading scorer for the Eagles who finished 14-5-1 and reached the Northern Athletics Conference Tournament semifinals.
Gerry, a native of Prairie du Sac, Wis. and graduate of Sauk Prairie High School, was named to the first team in NCAA Division III District 6. She scored 24 goals and had four assists for Edgewood College in 2011. Gerry finished the season ranked second in the NAC in goals and as of last week, ranked sixth in the nation in goals scored. Twice this season, Gerry matched her career-high by scoring six goals in a single game.
With 75 career goals and 165 career points, she will enter her senior year needing just two goals to surpass MSOE's Jessica Axt (2008-11) as the NAC's all-time leading goal scorer. She ranks second all-time in school history behind Julie Veloff's (1995-98) career totals of 104 goals and 243 career points. Gerry is an accounting major who holds an impressive 3.94 grade point average.
This marks the second straight Academic All-District award for Gerry, which again makes her eligible to be selected to the Capital One Academic All-American team. Gerry's award is the sixth Academic All-District award in the history of the women's soccer program. Gerry joins Emily Daniels as the only two Eagle women's soccer players to win Academic All-District awards in consecutive seasons.
Each year since the 1950's the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) nominates and votes for the Capital One Academic All-American and All-Distrist teams. No Edgewood College women's soccer player has ever earned Academic All-American.
