Gerry, Santaga lead Edgewood College's All-NAC selections

2011 All-Northern Athletics Conference Awards

MADISON, Wis. – Following the Edgewood College women's soccer team's ninth consecutive winning season, eight Eagles were honored when the Northern Athletics Conference handed out all-conference awards on Wednesday. The Eagles' leading scorers, Elaine Gerry and Kristina Santaga were both named first team All-NAC, to lead this group.

Gerry, a native of Prairie du Sac, finished the season ranked in the nation's top-10 in four offensive categories. Her 24 total goals ranked sixth, and her 52 points were ninth. Gerry ranked 10th with six game-winning goals and a goals per game average of 1.2. The junior finished second in the NAC in goals, behind MSOE's Jessica Axt, who was named NAC Player of the Year. Gerry also handed out four assists, which ranked sixth on the team. Gerry has scored 75 career goals, which ranks second all-time in Edgewood College history. She posted a career-high of six goals in a game twice, first on September 4 at Beloit College and again on October 22 against Rockford College. Gerry has been named first team All-NAC all three years of her career.

A junior from Green Bay, Santaga finished second on the team with 10 total goals. Santaga also finished ninth in the conference and second on the team with seven assists. The midfielder finished second on the team behind Gerry with 27 points. Santaga has earned first team All-NAC recognition each of the last two seasons.

Sophomore defender Brianna Franken earned her first career all-conference award, being named to the All-NAC second team. The De Pere native was a member of a defense that only allowed 18 goals all season. She also scored two goals to go along with two assists for a total of six points.

A goalkeeper from McFarland, Kristi Frisch earned honorable mention all-conference after starting 19 games and posting a record of 13-5-1 for the Eagles. The junior registered five shutouts and led the NAC with a 0.85 goals against average among goalkeepers who played at least 1,000 minutes. This is the first all-conference award Frisch has earned.

Brittany Drewiske, a native of Green Bay, led a defense that only allowed 0.89 goals per game. The senor sweeper started all but one game for the Eagles, helping them post 10 shutouts. This is the second all-conference award Drewiske has earned, as she was named second team All-NAC a season ago.

Mackenzie Klingert was selected honorable mention All-NAC. The sophomore defender from De Pere was a key contributor to a defense that posted 10 shutouts and allowed less than one goal per game. Klingert was also named to the all-sportsmanship team. She earned all-freshman team honors in 2010.

Freshmen Jenna Mineau and Emily Dorsett were both named to the All-NAC freshman team. Mineau, who hails from Green Bay, scored four goals and handed out one assist from her defender position. A native of Omro, Dorsett, finished tied for third on the team with six assists. She also scored three goals for a total of 12 points.

After topping Dominican University 1-0 in the first round of the NAC Tournament, the Eagles fell 1-0 in overtime at Marian University in the semifinals. Edgewood College finished the season with a 14-5-1 overall record, including a 9-2-1 mark in conference play.
