KEENE, N.H. – Keene State junior forward Joan Hamel scored with 13:11 left in the second half to lift the second-seeded Owls to a 1-0 victory over No. 7 Norwich in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England Tournament Quarterfinals on Wednesday night.

Hamel beat Norwich senior goalkeeper Meghan Kennedy (Lowell, Mass.) on a breakaway to the left post to score the game's lone goal and knock the Cadets out in the ECAC quarterfinal round for the second straight season. Keene State is the two-time defending champions of the ECAC New England Tournament.

Kennedy was brilliant for Norwich in her final game between the pipes for the Cadets, stopping 12 shots on goal to help keep the game close even though Keene State drastically outshot Norwich 36-6.

Norwich finishes the 2011 season with an 11-5-3 overall record. Keene State (14-7-2) moves on to the ECAC New England Tournament Final Four to try and continue its quest for a three-peat.
