Wentworth names Desilets co-head women's coach

BOSTON, Mass. – Wentworth Institute of Technology athletic director and head women's soccer coach Angel Ayres has announced the hiring of Bobby Desilets as the Leopards' co-head women's soccer coach and assistant women's lacrosse coach, effective immediately.

"Coach Desilets has strong recruiting and team building experience that will help both our women's soccer and lacrosse programs. He has proven to be a team player and will bring a renewed energy and new perspective to both programs, as well as to our athletic department. We welcome him and look forward to his future achievements here at Wentworth."

Desilets comes to Wentworth after having served as head women's soccer coach at neighboring Newbury for the past three seasons. During his time with the Nighthawks, he improved the team's record from 4-10-2 in his first season to the program's first winning season this past season (8-7-1) and advanced to the New England Collegiate Conference Tournament in each season. In each season the team's goal output increased and the number of goals allowed decreased.

His first recruiting class featured the 2010 NECC Rookie of the Year and league-leading goal scorer in Brianna Tomaselli, who would earn First Team All-NECC honors this past season and lead Division III with 0.86 assists per game. His recruiting efforts for the 2011 season paid off as he had the conference's leading scorer among freshman and a Second Team All-NECC selection.

Prior to arriving at Newbury Desilets spent two seasons at Lesley University where he spent the 2007 season as an assistant men's soccer coach and the 2008 season as an assistant women's soccer coach. While with the women's team, the Lynx had a program-best record of 16-3-2 and he helped recruit the 2009 NECC Rookie of the Year.

A Burrillville, R.I., native, Desilets was a four-year standout in men's soccer at Bowdoin College, helping the Polar Bears to a 43-17-5 record during his career and an appearance in the 2003 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament. During his junior season he was named both First Team All-New England Small College Athletic Conference and Third Team All-New England. Desilets etched his name into Bowdoin's record book as he holds the program record for assists in a game with three, is third on the single-season list for goals scored (12; 2003), and sixth on the single-season list for assists (seven; 2002). Additionally, his 28 points in 2003 puts him fourth on the Polar Bears' single-season list and he ranks seventh in program history with 66 career points. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in both Economics and History from Bowdoin in 2005 and is presently pursuing a Master's degree from Northeastern University.

Outside of collegiate coaching experience he has been involved with the Scorpions Soccer Club where he has coached the U-11 boys group and the U-18 and U-17 girls groups and is an evaluator with the Massachusetts Olympic Development Program.

I am looking forward to continuing the tradition that Angel has established with the women's soccer program and helping the women's lacrosse program become successful."

Desilets will serve as the co-head women's soccer coach for the 2012 season, working alongside Ayres, and will take the reins of the program at the conclusion of the season. Beginning this spring he will serve as an assistant women's lacrosse coach for Leopard club team, under head coach Jess Blair, which will be elevated to varsity status for the 2012-13 year. He will also serve as an Athletic Coordinator in the department and will be responsible for contest management and serving as an advisor to the student-athlete advisory committee.
