Offensive Lights Go Out At Hamline

ST. PAUL, Minn. (9/14/11)-- No.11-ranked Concordia opened MIAC conference play with a thud on Wednesday at Hamline. The Cobbers had the lights turned out on their offense and came away with a 0-0 double overtime tie. The tie is the second of the season for CC who remains unbeaten at 3-0-2.

The Pipers, the surprise team in the MIAC this season, remain unbeaten as they are now 4-0-1.

The game was very uneventful as the Pipers were content to sit back on defense and not allow the Cobber attackers get into space behind the backline. That theme played out in the statistics as Concordia was held to a season-low total of 10 overall shots. The Cobbers had seven shots on goal but were never able to come up with a quality chance that would have sealed a conference-opening victory.

On the other end of the field, Hamline did not have a shot on goal and had only three shots total for the 90 minutes. The statistical disparity continued over to corner kicks where Concordia had a 10-2 advantage.

No CC attacker had more than two shots in the game. Junior Sarah Rounds, sophomores Gina Weiss and Jamie St. Germain and freshman Elizabeth Robinson all had two shots for the game. Concordia back-up goalie Haley Haddock, who is also being used as an attacking player this year, came off the bench to give head coach Dan Weiler quality minutes on the front line. Haddock had one shot.

Concordia goalie Ali Nelson did not have to make a save in order to pick up her second shutout of the season. Piper keeper Liz Stock stopped all seven shots she faced. It was the first full shutout of the year for Stock who has not given up a goal this season.
