Raspanti Named AMCC Woman of the Year
PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Penn State Altoona women's soccer's Lindsay Raspanti (Fairless Hills, PA/Pennsbury) was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference's Woman of the Year on Friday.
Raspanti, who graduated in May with a degree in Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology, is the first Penn State Altoona student-athlete to ever win the AMCC's Woman of the Year award.
As the recipient of the award, Raspanti is also nominated for the prestigious NCAA Woman of the Year award, which will be announced later this summer.
"Lindsay was the epitome of a student-athlete during her time at Penn State Altoona," said Penn State Altoona Director of Athletics Fredina M. Ingold. "She is deserving of this award because of her strong commitment to athletics, academics, and community service. We are very proud of her accomplishments and her selection as the AMCC's Woman of the Year."
Raspanti flourished throughout a decorated four-year career as the starting goalkeeper on the Lady Lions soccer team, leading her squad to a pair of AMCC championships and two appearances in the NCAA Division III Tournament. She was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference's Division III South Region Defensive Player of the Year in 2010, and she also earned the title of AMCC Co-Player of the Year after that same season. She also took All-AMCC honors each year from 2008-2011.
Raspanti holds Penn State Altoona's single season records in women's soccer for most wins (17 in 2009) and most shutouts (13 in 2010), and she is also the school's career record-holder for wins (54) and shutouts (38).
As a student, Raspanti was just as successful. She was recognized for her academic achievements by gaining induction into three college honor societies: Tau Alpha Phi, the national honor society for Engineering Technology; Omnicron Delta Kappa, the national honor society for leadership; and Chi Alpha Sigma, the national honor society for college athletes. After the 2010-2011 year, Raspanti was chosen as Penn State Altoona's Female Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Raspanti was also very involved on campus and in the community, donating a wealth of time to several causes. She was a four-year representative on the Student Athlete Advisory Council, serving as vice president in her sophomore and junior years, then as president during her senior year. She participated in many community service projects, including ones that benefitted the Special Olympics, the Miracle League of Blair County, and Toys for Tots.
"Being an athlete, scholar, and leader both on campus and in the community is no easy task, but it is truly rewarding," said Raspanti. "Through my position, I acquired great opportunities to utilize personal skills and help others. Whether it is your peers on campus or less fortunate members of the community, you need to be willing to go out of your way to make constructive changes for the better."
The AMCC's Woman of the Year honor has been in existence since 2005-2006.
