Kingston's Record Setting Game Leads Cyclones Over Albion
Hackettstown, N.J. (August 31, 2012) - Tatiana Kingston (Mountainside, NJ, Governor Livingston) scored a pair of goals and assisted on three more to lead Centenary to a 7-1 season-opening win over Albion College in the 2012 Cyclone Kickoff Classic.
Kingston, who entered the game two assists shy of breaking Brittany Overland's All-Time assists record, opened the scoring just 49 seconds into the game. Albion bounced back quickly however as the Briton's scored at the 5:37 mark to knot the game at one.
Centenary continued to apply pressure throughout the first half, registering 18 shots, but Albion keeper Victoria Della Pia stopped shot after shot by the Cyclones to hold the score at one headed into the half.
The Cyclones broke through in the second half however, with Kingston feeding Sara Smith (Dumont, NJ, Dumont) who delivered the ball into the back of the net giving Centenary a lead it would not relinquish.
Just four minutes after Smith's goal, Courtney Dillon (Flanders, Morris Catholic) provided some instant offense, scoring just seconds after entering the game. Then, ten minutes later, Kingston sprung Kelley Jane Carvalho (Roselle, NJ, Roselle Catholic) on a breakaway in which Carvalho punched home the fourth goal for the Cyclones. With the assist, Kingston passed former teammate Brittany Overland for the school record in All-Time Assists with 20.
Kingston was not finished however, as the standout midfielder recorded her third assist of the afternoon less than two minutes later, feeding Laura Potter (Gilboa, NY, Gilboa- Conesville) on a goal to break open the game. Just for measure, Kingston scored an unasisted goal late in the game giving her a two goal, three assist game to open the 2012 season.
Aside from Kingston's efforts, the story of the game was the constant offensive pressure Centenary mounted. The Cyclones pounded out 41 shots in the game, forcing Albion goalkeepers to make 17 saves. Laura Potter got loose for ten shots, while Samantha Sysak (Bayonne, NJ, Holy Family Academy) fired off nine more.
In the end, the Cyclones walked away with a 7-1 win to open the 2012 campaign as part of the Cyclone Kickoff Classic which is being played this year in memory of Brittany Emerald Paes. Paes, a native of Gilboa, N.Y., the same hometown of Centenary's Laura Potter, passed away in a tragic ATV accident this past June. The Cyclones are donating all proceeds from the Cyclone Kickoff Classic to PETA, (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).
The Cyclones will be back in action tomorrow afternoon at 3 pm hosting the Drew Rangers. The Rangers dropped their game to St. John Fisher by a score of 5-2 earlier in the day.
