Soccer Battles Wellesley to 0-0 Draw
BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The 2012 Bryn Mawr College soccer season kicked-off Saturday afternoon as the Owls battled Seven Sister's foe Wellesley to a 0-0 draw on Applebee Field.
The Owls had numerous times to break the tie, including two prominent changes in the final two overtimes. Despite not netting a goal, the Owls kept Wellesley goalie Claire Cerda honest with 15 shots.
The Owls best chance to net a goal during regulation came in the 73rd minute when sophomore Marian Slocum's direct kick was heading in the net before Cerda was able to get her fingertips on the ball to redirect it away from the end line. Both teams recorded shots down the home stretch but were unable to find the back of the net.
In the first overtime, the Owls best chance to score came from the foot of freshman Allegra Levy when she sent a wide-open look at the net just left of the net in the 97th minute. In the second overtime, sophomore Marcela Dorfsman-Hopkins took a pass at the top of the box that nailed the crossbar and ricochet straight down but never cross the end line.
The Blue almost broke the tie in the second overtime as well when Chelsea-Ann Patry also hit the cross bar with just over five minutes remaining.
Posting 11 saves in the net for the Owls was senior Rebecca Joseph while her counterpart turned away eight. Six different Owls recorded shots, eight of them ended up on goal, led by Levy.
Today's match-up was the first time that the Blue and Owls faced off on the pitch in 15-years. The last time these two school played, Wellesley defeated Bryn Mawr 4-0.
The Owls are back to action when they host Misericordia on Sunday, Sept. 2, at 1:00 pm on Applebee Field.
