Brewers Craft Victory Over Mariners
BANGOR, Maine – Gavriella Kaplan and Chole Wheeler factored in on all of the scoring as Vassar's women handed Maine Maritime a 3-0 setback in Sunday afternoon soccer. The Brewers battled through the Eighth Annual Husson Invitational with an unblemished record to start their 2012 campaign off at 2-0. The Mariners fell to 0-2.
Kaplan cashed in on a Wheeler cross in the 15th minute for the game-winning tally. Wheeler extended the differential with an unassisted marker just before the half, while Kaplan scored in the early stages of the second half for the 3-0 final. The Brewers mustered a dozen shots to the Mariners' three. Ali Higgins turned away a pair to keep a clean sheet. Kelsie Hilton (Monmouth, Maine/Monmouth Academy) turned away four advances at the other end.
The Mariners return to action on Wednesday evening at Machias.
