Majors Rally Past LeTourneau in Second Half; Paschall Picks Up First Career Win
LONGVIEW, Texas - After going into halftime down 1-0, the Millsaps Majors Women's Soccer Team rattled off three consecutive goals to rally and defeat LeTourneau on Saturday afternoon, 3-1. It marks the first career head coaching victory for Amanda Paschall who is in her first year as head coach with the program.
The Yellow Jackets (0-2-0) struck first early on as Kaitlyn Conway scored in the fifth minute to give LeTourneau the 1-0 lead.
Millsaps (1-1-0) tried to respond throughout the first half with shots coming from senior Dora Lambert, junior Kaleigh Redhead, and junior Jamie Blair Page, but could not find the back of the net and went into the first half with a deficit.
The Majors came out aggressive in the second half and found the equalizier in the 61st minute when junior Kaleigh Redhead found fellow juniorGrace Gremillion for a goal. For Gremillion, it's her second goal of the season.
In the blink of an eye, Taylor Winslow scored to give the Majors a 2-1 lead 19 seconds after their first goal.
And Winslow was not done, she found the back of the net a second time in the 74th minute as picked up her second goal of the game and the season thanks to an assist from Page.
Winslow and Gremillion led the way with their goals while senior Margaret Eggers fired four shots to put the pressure on the Yellow Jackets. The Millsaps offense gave themselves plenty of opportunities as they took 17 shots.
Defensively, the back four of junior Portia Waite, junior Tara Johnston, freshman Malorie Proa, and freshman Katie Sands all played extremely well all game long. Freshman goalkeeper Elise Davis was also great, picking up three saves on the afternoon.
The Majors are back in action on September 9th as they travel to Shreveport to take on Centenary College. First kick is set for 2 p.m.
