Lady Mavs Rebound with Convincing (6-2) Win Over Keuka
BUFFALO, NY - The Medaille women's soccer team shrugged off a season opening loss and cruised past Keuka College (6-2) less than 24 hours later. Rookie Candis Kapuscinski netted a hat trick in just her 2nd collegiate game.
The Lady Mavs scored early and often as they struck quickly, netting a goal fifty seconds into the game when Kapuscinski finished off a Joey Ruderman offering for a (1-0) lead.
After 25 minutes of scoreless play Medaille went on a scoring frenzy burying three goals in a (2:14) span. The first came on an unassisted tally by Ruderman at the (26:00) minute mark. Kapuscinski would tally her second of the game just (1:31) later to give Medaille a (3-0) lead before Ruderman would drill home a free kick from thirty five yards out to push the lead to (4-0).
The Lady Mavs would add another goal before halftime when Katie Botsford) scored a pretty goal off a nice assist from teammate Brianna Harvey# to seize a commanding (5-0) lead heading into halftime. During the opening (45:00) junior netminder Denay O'Connor stopped both shots that found their way on frame, and her day would be over.
Rookie Chelsea Walker would step between the posts in the second half for the first action of her collegiate career. She stopped three of the five shots that she faced in the second half. Keuka netted a pair of goals in the 47th and 59th minute before the Lady Mavs struck again on Kapuscinski's third of the day when senior Mary Booth played a nice ball to her,earning the assist on the marker.
The Lady Mavs outshot the Storm (23-10) overall and (14-7) on goal on a sweltering day in Buffalo. The victory puts them at (1-1-0) heading into their third straight home game which will be Wednesday (9/5) at 5:00pm against Nazareth College at All High Stadium.
