Bertolami Nets First Career Goal Against Misericordia
BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Freshman Nina Bertolami netted Bryn Mawr's only goal of the afternoon as the Owls fell to visiting Misericordia, 6-1, Sunday afternoon in their final game of the Swat Kick Classic.
The game started off with Misericordia controlling the tempo of the game. In the fifth minute of action, senior goalkeeper Rebecca Joseph kept the game notched at zero when she stopped Misericordia's Sam Helmstetter inside the 18 on a breakaway.
The Cougars continued their attack before netting a pair of goals just under 1:15 apart to take an early 2-0 lead. Laura Roney tallied both of Misericordia goals which came at 6:29 and 7:43. The Gocugars tacked on another goal in the 30th minute as Erin McGreal found the back of the net.
With just over 12 minutes left in the opening half, Joseph once again showed her ability as she made a spectacular driving save on another Helmstetter shot that was heading into the net. The first-half ended with Misericordia hold a 3-0 lead.
Misericordia started the second-half the same way the first came to a close. McGreal added a pair of goals over a two-minute span to push the Cougars' lead to five, 5-0.
Bertolami finally got the Owls on the board when she found the back of the net in the 49th minute. With a ball being played from midfield, Bertolami gained possession, made a move on a defender and got her shot off that went past an outstretched Cailtin Sweeney. It was Bertolami's first collegiate goal and Bryn Mawr's first tally of the season.
Misericordia tacked-on one more goal in the 51st minute when Meghan Antrim netted an unassisted tally.
With 27 minutes left in the game, Joseph made another fantastic diving save when she deflected a shot from Antrim to keep the Cougars at bay.
Joseph ended the day with 17 saves on the afternoon. Sophomore Marcela Dorfsman-Hopkins led the Owls with two shots while five other Owls posted shots.
Bryn Mawr is off this week and return to action on Saturday, Sept. 8, when they travel to Sweet Brair for a 1:00 pm contest with the Vixens.
