Titans Notch Win Over Tommies
Jenna Lahmann (Fr. • Wauwatosa) scored the tying goal and then assisted on the match winner as the UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team defeated the University of St. Thomas (Minn.), 2-1, on Saturday (Sept. 1) in Stevens Point.
The University of St. Thomas (1-1) took the early lead when Hannah Pawlik scored off a pass from Brittany Cochlin just 7:28 into play. The Tommies went to intermission leading 1-0 despite a 9-2 advantage in shots during the opening period.
UW-Oshkosh (2-0) tallied both of its goals within a span of 53 seconds. Lahmann made the score 1-1 when she sailed an unassisted shot into the net at the 53:44 mark of the contest. It was the first collegiate goal for Lahmann.
The Titans went in front shortly after as Lahmann served Amanda Baalke (So. • Pewaukee) for the match-winning goal at the 54:37 mark of play.
The University of St. Thomas, which suffered its first loss to UW-Oshkosh in three meetings, posted advantages of 18-8 in shots and 7-5 in corner kicks. The Tommies were led by the four shots of Pawlik and the three of Cochlin. Lahmann and Nicole Strieker (Sr. • Janesville) both had two shots for the Titans.
Goalkeeper Nina Muzi (Fr. • Waukesha) saved nine shots, including six in the first half, to earn her first collegiate shutout. Callan Faulkne saved four shots for the University of St. Thomas.
UW-Oshkosh, which is off to its first 2-0 start since the 2006 season, plays Lake Forest College (Ill.) on Saturday (Sept. 8) in Kenosha.
