Amick and Wilson Earn NEWMAC's Offensive and Defensive Awards

NORTON, Mass.- The Wheaton College women's soccer team swept the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference's (NEWMAC) first weekly awards of the 2012 fall season on Monday, as a pair of freshmen collected the league's offensive and defensive player of the week honors.

Forward Cat Amick (Vashon, Wash./Vashon Island) took home the offensive award after scoring the Lyons' lone goal during Friday's 1-1 tie at 2011 NCAA Tournament team Roger Williams University and adding an assist in Sunday's 3-1 victory at 2011 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament champion Worcester State University.  Goalie Taylor Wilson (Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham) earned the league's defensive accolade.

Amick tallied Wheaton's lone goal during her collegiate debut on Friday, giving the Lyons a 1-0 first-half advantage.  On Sunday, she helped Wheaton provide an insurance goal in the 72nd minute, taking the ball near post on a corner kick and feeding a teammate.

Wilson went 1-0-1 with a 0.58 goals against average and five saves.  Entering Sunday's game after halftime and with the score tied at one, she pitched a shutout half while making one save.  Wilson started against Roger Williams, allowing one goal while making four saves during 110 minutes of play.

Wheaton, which is receiving votes in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) preseason poll, hosts Salve Regina University in Saturday's home opener at 12:00 p.m.
