Women's Soccer: Titans Bested by Fredonia, 1-0
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the 2012 season on Tuesday night with a 1-0 decision to the visiting Fredonia State. The Titans dropped to 1-1 on the year, while the Blue Devils improved to 2-0.
Both teams battled for scoring opportunities in the first half, while Fredonia had a 7-3 shot advantage. Westminster junior Amanda Turi (Monroeville, PA / Gateway) and freshman Rebecca Bradnam (Irwin, PA / Hempfield) each had a shot on goal, however neither team could find the back of the net.
After intermission, Fredonia broke the tie with a goal at the 52:53 mark. Katie Kleine made a move past Westminster's goalie for her first score of the year. Alicia Jones setup Kleine with a lead pass from midfield.
The Blue Devils outshot the Titans 13-3, 6-0 in the second half.
Westminster senior goalie Jenn Cantella (Freedom, Pa./Freedom) had a game-high six saves in her first loss of the year.
The Titans will host Pitt-Johnstown on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
