Bridgewater Blanks Hood, 7-0
FREDERICK, Md. - The Bridgewater offense continued to click on all cylinders Tuesday afternoon as the Eagles blanked Hood College, 7-0, in non-conference women's soccer action.
The Eagles have scored an impressive 16 goals in their first three contests this season. The defense kept pace by posting its second consecutive shutout.
Abby Dehoff paced the attack with her second straight two-goal game while Sarah Conner pitched in with a goal and three assists.
Dehoff put the Eagles on the board early when she took a cross from Conner and found the lower right corner of the net for a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute of play.
The score remained 1-0 until the 34th minute when Brittney Harris scored with a shot from 25 yards out for a 2-0 BC lead.
The Eagles made it 3-0 before the half when Krissy Snyder took a pass from Morgan Van Reenen and put a shot over the keeper's head and into the net from 20 yards out.
Bridgewater added three more goals during a seven-minute span early in the second half.
Melanie Waters took a cross from Conner in the 49th minute to make the score 4-0 and just more than a minute later, Dehoff scored off a corner from Conner to put BC on top 5-0. Conner then was on the receiving end of a goal when a misplayed ball by a Hood defender was possessed by Waters who then passed to Conner for the goal and a 6-0 BC advantage.
A pair of freshmen combined for the final goal when Rachel Woods took a pass from Tiffany DuBeck and punched the ball past the goalie just inside the left post for the final 7-0 margin of victory.
The Eagles offense dominated the action with a 24-5 edge in shots and an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks.
A trio of goalkeepers combined for the shutout. Chelsea Steele played the first half and recorded a pair of saves. Taylor Riley and Krista Kelly split the second half duties with Riley finishing with one save.
The Eagles (2-1) return to action Friday and Saturday when they travel to the Greensboro College Invitational for games against the host Pride and Stevenson University.
