Buena Vists Wins Season Opener against MacMurray
Buena Vista senior Kellyn Arnold (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) scored three times and moved to within one of the program's all-time career goals record, as she helped lead the Beaver women's soccer team to a season-opening 7-0 home victory over MacMurray College to open the BVU Classic.
BVU wasted no time getting on the board, getting goals from freshman Kelsey O'Connor (Arvadas, Colo./Arvada West) and Arnold less than three minutes in for the early 2-0 lead. Arnold then made it a three-goal advantage with her second goal of the game with only 14 minutes gone by before Echo King (Claremore, Okla./Claremore) scored her first collegiate goal moments later.
Freshman Tori Carson (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Washington) then gave the Beavers a 5-0 halftime lead with her first career goal midway through the period. Nearly 10 minutes into the second half, she dished out the assist to Arnold to make it 6-0 before scoring the game's final goal five minutes later.
Arnold now has 31 career goals and is one shy of former teammate Kelsey Reitmeier's all-time mark from 2008-11.
O'Connor also dished out a pair of assists, while senior Casey Tims (Papillion, Neb./Daniel Gross Catholic) chimed in with one.
As a team, BVU held the Highlanders without a single shot in the contest.
Buena Vista moves to 1-0 on the year and will look to make it back-to-back wins to start the year when the team hosts Northland College at 2:00pm on Sunday afternoon inside of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium.
