Patriots Too Much for Pirates
TYLER, Texas - Southwestern played a brilliant second half and equaled UT Tyler in shots in the frame, but the first half was more than they could overcome as the Pirates fell 4-0 to the Patriots Sunday afternoon.
It took five and a half minutes for UTT to take control of the game and the Patriots added two more before halftime to send Southwestern into the break down 3-0. UT Tyler outshot SU 12-3 in the first half.
A refocused Pirate team took the field for the second half and Danielle De Los Santos had a great look at goal just over a minute into the half that was blocked and cleared out by UT Tyler's defense. UTT got their insurance in the 53rd minute to push the lead to four, 4-0.
Southwestern continued to press and maintained possession in the midfield to hold the attack together but couldn't find the back of the net as the game wound to a close.
Southwestern trailed 17-8 in shots and 1-0 in corners. Starting keeper Sarah Nonaka recorded three saves while Katherine Rodgers posted one save.
The loss drops the Pirates to 0-5 on the season. They return to the pitch on September 15th as they head to the University of California Santa Cruz to take on the Banana Slugs at 5 pm CST.
