RALEIGH, NC -- Senior captain Taylor Schulte tallied a goal and an assist to lead the #3 Johns Hopkins women's soccer team past Birmingham-Southern, 2-0, Sunday afternoon in Raleigh, NC.

The Blue Jays outshot Birmingham-Southern 8-1 in the first half, and were rewarded for their efforts in the 43rd minute when Schulte beat goalkeeper Richelle Byrd for the score.

The Panthers came out strong in the second half, but netminder Kelly Leddy and the rest of the Hopkins defense were up to the challenge. Leddy made six saves on the afternoon to earn her first shutout of the season.

Hopkins added an insurance goal with six minutes to play in the match after Christina Convey played a corner into the box. Schulte advanced the ball toward teammate Jenny Hall who then beat Byrd for her first goal of the season.

The Blue Jays look to connect two wins in a row Wednesday at Stevenson,  before opening conference play against Washington College on Saturday.
