No. 25 Centre Spoils No. 13 Spartans' Home Opener

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The No. 13 nationally-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team saw its 2012 home opener spoiled by No. 25 Centre College (Ky.) by a score of 3-0 on Saturday at Case Field.

Case falls to 2-1-1 on the season and will return to action on the road on Wednesday, September 12 at The College of Wooster.

With the victory, Centre improves to 3-0.

The match was a defensive struggle for the majority as the two squads combined for just 13 shots.

Centre took advantage of a pair of scoring opportunities during the opening half as Anne Mitchell scored in the 22nd minute, while Megan Rueth found the back of the net in the 39th minute. The Colonels tacked on the third goal of the match in the 72nd minute via an Alex Combs shot from 30 yards out.

Spartan sophomore goalkeeper Cameron Casson (Allen, Texas/Allen) logged the opening 45 minutes in the loss, while freshman Megan Romelfanger (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) played the second half.

Between the pipes for Centre, Megan Foley played the opening stanza and had one stop, while Holly Hilton had a pair of saves in the final stanza.
