NJCU MISSES TWO PKS, FALLS TO STATEN ISLAND, 3-2
STATEN ISLAND, NY (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | New Jersey City University was awarded four penalty kicks, but only converted two of them and suffered a 3-2 loss at the College of Staten Island in non-conference women's soccer on September 11.
CSI sophomore goalkeeper Victoria Donegan (Staten Island, NY) made 13 saves, including one official stop of a penalty kick to spark the Dolphins (3-1-0) over NJCU (1-3-2) in the 'Bayonne Bridge Series.' CSI snapped NJCU's five-game winning streak in the series. NJCU, which still leads the all-time series 7-2 (27-13 goals differential), outshot the hosts, 20-17.
Senior center midfielder BRIANNA TAYLOR (Linden, NJ/Linden) scored both of NJCU's goals, her fourth and fifth of the season, on penalty kick chances in the waning moments—making it a 3-1 game at 84:54 after CSI jumped out to a 3-0 lead, before making it a one-goal game with 1:44 remaining (88:16).
