Bridgewater Rolls Past EMU, 10-0

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Bridgewater College scored three goals in the first seven minutes Wednesday afternoon and the Eagles went on to defeat rival Eastern Mennonite, 10-0, in ODAC women's soccer action.

Eight different Bridgewater players scored goals as the Eagles dominated play from the opening whistle.

The Eagles got on the board at the 2:42 mark when Melanie Waters beat the EMU goalie one-on-one with a shot to the far post.

Bridgewater added its next two goals in a 27-second span to lead 3-0. The Eagle scored off a short corner when Waters dribbled in from the left side and delivered a pass to Erin Holden directly in from of the goal. Holden touched the ball into the net for a 2-0 BC lead. Krissy Snyder made it 3-0 at the 6:58 mark when she scored off a long crossing pass from Sarah Conner.

The score remained 3-0 until the 37th minute when Paxton Sauerwald centered a pass to Amanda Pere gory and the BC freshman had a wide open goal to give the Eagles a 4-0 lead.

Bridgewater added six more goals in the second half to complete the scoring.

Conner scored off an assist from Waters to make it 5-0 and Sauer Wald scored off a pass from Jacky Kelley for a 6-0 BC advantage.

Peregory added her second goal off an assist from Morgan Van Renin in the 70th minute before unassisted goals from Sauerwald and Woods made the score 9-0. Sauerwald sent her shot to the upper right corner of the net while Woods beat the keeper to the near post with a low driving shot. The Eagles completed their scoring in the 78th minute when Woods' long crossing pass found Lindsay Suyes and Suyes booted a shot inside the far post for the final 10-0 margin.

Three Bridgewater keepers combined for the shutout with starter Chelsea Steele logging the first 45 minutes. Stephanie Bebko played the first 23:11 of the second half and Krista Kelly finished up.

For the Royals, goalkeeper Becca Borg finished the contest with 12 saves.

With the victory, the Eagles are now 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the ODAC. EMU falls to 2-2 and 0-1 in conference play.
