EKU tips Transy women, 1-0
RICHMOND, Ky. - NCAA Division I Eastern Kentucky scored a late first-half goal Friday and made it stand up for a hotly contested 1-0 win over Division III Transylvania in women's soccer action.
The Pioneers are 3-1-1 on the season while the Colonels improve to 4-4-1.
Transy battled Eastern evenly thoughout the contest. Although the Colonels had a 21-9 edge in shots overall, each team had seven shots on goal. Transy keeper Jerrica Scovel had six saves in the net.
Eastern's goal came in the 44th minute when Dani Cant converted a cross from five yards out.
Abby Felthaus and Ashley Cobane each had shots that could have tied the score in the late going, but EKU managed to knock them away.
The Pioneers will play their first home game of the season on Wednesday, taking on cross-state rival Centre at Hall Field on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
