Kronick Matches Conference Record Four Goals in Hopkins Victory
BALTIMORE, MD – Sophomore Hannah Kronick exploded for four goals to help the #6 Johns Hopkins women's soccer team storm by Washington College, 4-0, at Homewood Field Saturday night. The four strikes tie the all-time Centennial Conference record for goals in a single game.
Johns Hopkins (5-1-1) set the tone for the match early, as Kronick opened the scoring in the 17th minute on a pass from Alyssa Conti. Conti laid the ball off to Kronick, who placed the ball past goalkeeper Rebecca Potochney from 10 yards out.
The Blue Jays fired 16 shots in the first half and nearly scored in the 24th minute after Kronick missed just wide on a one-on-one with Potochney. Three minutes later, Christina Convey beat Potochney one-on-one, but was thwarted by the post.
After the halftime break Hopkins continued to dominate possession and doubled the scoreline in the 59th minute. Freshman Issy Berkey played a free kick into the box and Kronick knocked home the ball amidst a scramble in the six-yard box.
Kronick notched her third goal in the 65th minute after receiving a looping long ball from defender Amanda Masse. The forward beat Potochney to put the Blue Jays ahead, 3-0. Less than a minute later, Kronick capped off her magical night with a header off a cross from Berkey.
Hopkins goalkeeper Kelly Leddy made three saves in 73 minutes of action, while Potochney tallied 13 saves on the night. The Blue Jays outshot the Shorewomen by a wide margin of 41-4.
Kronick, who tallied 19 goals as a freshman last season, now sits at eight goals on the season. The sophomore ranks ninth in Hopkins history in goals (27) and 12th in points (65).
The Blue Jays return to the pitch on Wednesday night at Homewood Field against St. Mary's (MD).
