Medaille Women Outlast Thiel in Double OT

More news about: Medaille women's team

GREENVILLE, PA - The Medaille College women's soccer team snapped its four game losing skid when they outlasted Thiel College this evening (2-1) in double overtime in non-conference road action.

The Lady Mavs dominated the run of play, outshooting the Tomcats (20-7) overall and (11-5) on goal.  It would be Medaille that would open the scoring late in the first half when Joey Ruderman capitalized on a pass from rookie Candis Kapuscinski to grab a (1-0) lead in the 43rd minute.  The Lady Mavs would carry that advantage into halftime.

The second half would see the host team net the equalizer in the 76th minute on a corner kick opportunity that gave Thiel momentum.  Neither team would be able to find the back of the net again in regulation, which carried the game into overtime.

The Lady Mavs would dominate the overtime periods outshooting the Tomcats (3-0) in the first overtime and (6-1) in the second overtime period.  No shot would prove to be more important than the one off the foot of Ruderman just (51) seconds into the second OT period that found the back of the net off a nice feed from Katie Botsford for the game winner.

Earning the victory between the posts for the Lady Mavs was junior Denay O'Connor who stopped four of the five shots that were on frame as the Lady Mavs improve to (2-5-0) on the season and will look to earn another victory when they head to Houghton College on Tuesday (9/18) for a 7:00pm non-conference matchup with the Highlanders.
