PACIFIC NEWS & NOTES
NEWCOMERS PRODUCE: Over the past three games, the Boxers have scored four goals. Two of those goals came from newcomers Chantal Gustine (Fr., Kalispell, Mont.) and McKenna Davidson (Fr., Kailua, Hawaii). Gustine scored her first goal in a Boxer uniform on Wednesday against George Fox. Kamryn Plechot (So., La Palma, Calif.) threw the ball to the center area of the box, which found Gustine, who fired between the posts, past the Bruins goalkeeper. The goal tied the game up 1-1 after a scoreless first half. Davidson scored her first goal of the season on Sunday against Pacific Lutheran. There was some confusion in the box, which Davidson took advantage of and fired to the back of the net. Both freshmen have seen the field in all seven games, making great contributions for the Boxers.
MCMURRAY STEPS UP IN OVERTIME: After scoring her first goal against Oregon Tech, Dani McMurray (Fr., Gresham, Ore.), another freshmen for the Boxers, stepped up her offensive game as she created many opportunities to score against the Lutes on Sunday. McMurray led the Boxers in overtime with three scoring opportunities. She tallied three of the five shots that were fired during the 20 minutes, but one was too wide and the other two were saved by Pacific Lutheran's goalkeeper. With less than one minute to go, McMurray fired off a shot, but was shut down. She collected four shots for the match, with her first shot of the match coming at the end of the second half, but the attempt was wide.
HARTMANN BETWEEN THE PIPES: After the third week of the season, goalkeeper Brittany Hartmann (Sr., Portland, Ore.) ranks in the top five of three different statistical categories in the Northwest Conference. She ranks second in goal-against average (0.90), third in saves (29), and fifth in save percentage (.829). Over the weekend, Hartmann collected seven saves for the Boxers. "Hartmann was absolutely fantastic this weekend," said Associate Head Coach Dane Joseph. "Our success is in large part due to her and Kaitlyn Harper (Sr., Oregon City, Ore.) encouraging and bringing along the younger players."
THIRD DRAW FOR BOXERS: On Sunday, the Boxers recorded their third draw for the 2012 season against Pacific Lutheran. Pacific scored in the 38th minute when there was some confusion in the box and Davidson took advantage, firing past the Pacific Lutheran goalkeeper. The Lutes would tie the game in the 61st minute. Both teams had scoring opportunities but couldn't find the back of the net for the rest of the match. The Boxers opened the 2012 season with a draw against Redlands on 8/31/12 and a second draw against Nortwest Christian on 9/8/12. In 2011, the Boxers recorded four draws, which is the most in program history in a single season.
