Buena Vista Women Match School Records for Goals and Wins in a Season

More news about: Buena Vista women's team

It was a record-setting afternoon for the Buena Vista women's soccer team, as it routed Faith Baptist Bible College, 10-0, in its final tune-up before opening Iowa Conference play this weekend.

BVU scored five times in each half and finished the contest with a school-record 70 shots.  Senior Kellyn Arnold (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins), who was tied for the national lead in goals scored entering the match, turned in her fifth hat trick of the year and now has 16 goals on the year.  Freshman Tori Carson (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Washington) posted her second career hat trick, and the duo also dished out one assist.

Arnold hooked up with Carson to start the scoring just four minutes into the contest before Carson returned the favor minutes into the second half.  Sam Richards (Glenwood, Iowa/Glenwood) and Monikue Loredo (Leavenworth, Kan./Leavenworth) each found the back of the net to make it 5-0 at the break.

Casey Tims (Papillion, Neb./Daniel Gross Catholic) made it 9-0 with her second goal of the year, while Taylor Daniel (Fairmont, Minn./Fairmont) capped the scoring with her first career goal.

The 10 goals scored give Buena Vista 46 on the year, tying the school record for a single-season which was set last season.  It was also the team's fifth shutout of the year, moving the Beavers within two of matching last year's record.

Nicole Smith (Murietta, Calif./Paloma Valley) made her third start in-goal this season and went the first 45 minutes before senior Turissa Moreland (Kiron, Iowa/Denison-Schleswig) came on to work the final 45.

Buena Vista (8-0-1) matches the school record for wins in a year, reaching last year's mark.  The team will now begin its quest to qualify for its first-ever Iowa Conference Tournament when it opens league play this Saturday at defending Iowa Conference regular season co-champion and tournament champion, Loras College (5-3).  Game time inside of the Rock Bowl is scheduled for 3:30pm.
