Women's Soccer Defeated by East. Conn., 1-0
PURCHASE, N.Y. - Chelsea Downer scored the game's only goal in the 63rd minute as Eastern Connecticut St. defeated the Rensselaer women's soccer team, 1-0 in a game that was shortened due to inclement weather and subsequent poor playing conditions. The game was part of the Valiant Classic hosted by Manhattanville College.
The total time of the contest was 72:30 instead of the normal 90 minutes. It was halted following a delay of 1:32. RPI is now 2-2-0 and Warriors are 2-1-0.
East. Conn.'s goal came at 62:32 when Downer buried a shot into the lower left corner from 20 yards out. the goal was her second of the season. Tamar Merheb had an assist on the play.
Deanna Amoia had two saves for RPI and Mackenzie MacLeod stopped one shot on the other end.
Rensselaer held a 9-4 advantage in shots, though the Warriors had a 3-1 edge on shots on goal. Both teams had one corner kick.
RPI is back in action on Wednesday at nationally-ranked SUNY New Paltz (4pm).
