Gulls Battle to Scoreless Draw with Eastern Nazarene
QUINCY, Mass.- Though they were the clear leader in shots and chances, Endicott was unable to find a goal on Saturday and played to a 0-0 draw with Eastern Nazarene in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's soccer action. The Gulls earned their first draw of the year and move to 4-3-1 on the season (0-1-1 CCC), while Eastern Nazarene's record goes to 2-5-2 (1-0-1 CCC).
The Gulls nearly tacked on a goal in the 18th minute on a shot by senior Christina Vellucci (Saugus, Mass.) but Lions' goalkeeper Kristen Farley (Westminster, Mass.) pushed the ball off the crossbar to keep the match level at 0-0.
Endicott held a 9-1 edge in shots through 45 minutes while earning the only three corner kicks awarded in the half. The Gulls would go on to outshot the Lions 23-6 and hold the hosts without a shot on goal.
The Gulls' Nicole Fournier (Milford, Mass.) hit the post in the final minutes of regulation as she nearly found the back of the net off of a turnover.
Endicott fired 11 shots in the second stanza and Eastern Nazarene recorded three. The Gulls sported a 3-2 advantage in overtime opportunities while finishing the contest with a 7-1 margin in corner kicks.
Endicott sophomore Katie Donnelly (Madison, Conn.) played the entire match between the posts for the Gulls. She did not have to make any stops, but her biggest threat came on a through ball late in the second half as she raced off her line to halt the attempt.
Farley stopped all seven shots she faced in goal for the Lions to pick up her fourth clean sheet of the season. The rookie also extended her shutout streak to 431:52.
The Gulls will stay on the road for their next match, travelling to Babson for a 4:00 pm non-conference test on Tuesday.
Eastern Nazarene returns to action September 25 as it travels to Becker.
