Centenary Downed at Neumann

Aston, Pa. (September 22, 2012) – The Cyclones traveled to Neumann University to face their Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) nemesis in a game sure to prove pivotal when CSAC playoff seeding time rolls around. For now, however, the contest marks an early season conference matchup, a matchup in which the Knights prevailed 2-0.

The game began with Neumann taking control of tempo from the opening whistle, with the Knights taking five of the first six shots of the game. Only Centenary goalkeeper Megan Williams (Glenside, Pa, Abington) and the goal post kept Neumann off the scoreboard in the early portion of the game.

Neumann would strike first as the Cyclones were called for a questionable foul in the box setting up a penalty kick by the Knights' Maria Tivoli. Tivoli converted the penalty kick at the 24:14 mark of the first half to give Neumann a 1-0 lead that the Knights would take into halftime.

Centenary turned the tables in the second half, registering the first five shots. Laura Potter (Gilboa, NY, Gilboa- Conesville) fired off the first shot of the half, shooting wide. Tatiana Kingston (Mountainside, NJ, Governor Livingston) followed with a shot that sailed high. Then, in the 66th minute, the Cyclones began putting shots on goal, first with Becky Camp (Belford, NJ, Middletown North) testing Neumann keeper Briana King. Then Cara Holmes (Pittstown, NJ, North Hunterdon) followed by Kingston putting shots on goal. King was up to the task however, stopping each shot.

Despite the Cyclones outshooting Neumann 7-2 in the second half, Centenary could not find the back of the net. The Knights added a late goal in the 87th minute to ice the game and giving the Cyclones their fourth loss of the season and first CSAC loss.

With the loss the Cyclones drop to 2-4-1 on the season and 1-1 in conference play. Centenary is in action next on Wednesday, 9/26 when the Cyclones travel to St. David's, Pa to face Eastern University.
