No. 12 Washington U. Wins Road Game at Rhodes, 3-0

Memphis, Tenn., September 22, 2012 — The No. 12 ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team concluded its five-game road trip with a 3-0 victory at Rhodes College on Saturday afternoon in Memphis, Tenn.

Washington University posted a 4-1 record on the road trip and outscored its opponents 14-5. Washington U. (7-1) plays its first home game in almost three weeks on Tuesday, Sept. 25, against Principia College. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. and will be streamed live on Bear TV.

Washington U. outshot Rhodes 10-1 in the first half, but managed to find the back of the net just one time. Junior Lauren Steimle gave the Bears a lift off the bench in the 36th minute as she headed home a cross from sophomore Lillie Toaspern to make it 1-0. The goal for Steimle was her first of the season and 15th of her career.

Junior Kate Doyle added a goal for Washington U. in the 66th minute to make it 2-0, and then senior Nicole Martin converted a penalty kick at 89:55 to round out the scoring. The goal for Martin was the first of her career.

Senior goalkeeper Clara Jaques made one save as she picked up her second shutout of the season. Jaques moved past Julie Kantner (1995-98) into fifth on the all-time list with 21 career shutouts. She is just three shy of setting the WUSTL all-time mark.

Washington U. outshot Rhodes 24-3 for the game and had a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Bear Notebook: Washington U. leads the all-time series with Rhodes 11-1-1 … The Bears have started the season 7-1 for the second-straight year.
