Medaille Women Stay Unbeaten in AMCC with Road Shutout of Hilbert
HAMBURG, NY - The Medaille College women's soccer team posted a dominating victory in their first conference road game as they cruised past crosstown rival Hilbert College (5-0) this afternoon. Five different Lady Mavs found the back of the net in the victory.
The Lady Mavs received a command performance from rookie Candis Kapudcinski who assisted on the the first four Medaille goals. At the (11:00) mark of the first half Kapuscinski booted a pretty cross into the box where Mary Booth would collect it and finish off an open look to grab a (1-0) lead. Less than three minutes later Kapuscinski would play a nice lead pass onto the foot of Joey Ruderman who deked the goalie for a wide open shot to go up (2-0). Four minutes after that marker played another beautiful ball, this time to Dana Cryan who beat the Hilbert goalie high from just outside the 18 to seize a commanding (3-0) lead which they would take into halftime.
Just under five minutes into the second half the Lady Mavs would strike again. This time it would be Lindsey Grana who would bury a rebound off a header from Kapuscinski that was initially stopped by the Hilbert keeper. That ball was played onto Kapuscinski by Ruderman who was also credited with an assist as the Lady Mavs went up (4-0). They would close out the scoring in the 61st minute when Katie Botsford tallied an unassisted marker on a shot from the top of the box that beat the goalie upper 90.
The Lady Mavs outshot the Hawks (18-6) overall and (8-4) on goal with junior Denay O'Connor earning the shutout between the posts by stopping all four shots that Hilbert put on frame. The win moves Medaille to (4-6-0) overall and they stay unbeaten in the AMCC at (2-0-0). They will look to stay on track when they head to Franciscan University for a 1:00pm showdown with the Barons on Saturday (9/29) in Steubenville, OH.
