Eastern Hat Trick Downs Cyclones
St. Davids, Pa. (September 26, 2012) – The Cyclones offensive woes continued today as Centenary fell 3-0 to Eastern University in a non-conference game on Eastern's Olson Field.
Centenary struggled to produce any scoring opportunities early, only generating two potential situations both nullified by offsides calls. The Eagles did not have the same troubles as Eastern began the game outshooting Centenary 5-0 in the opening 30 minutes including the first goal of the game by Kelsey Doutrich just over 13 minutes into the contest.
Eastern continued to pressure the Cyclones, netting their second goal, again by Doutrich in the 35th minute. In all, Eastern outshot Centenary 8-0 in the first half as the Eagles headed into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
As was the case in Saturday's game at Neumann University, Centenary came out of halftime and immediately created some opportunities with Rebecca D'Angelo (Mechanicsburg, Pa., Cumberland Valley) and Tatiana Kingston (Mountainside, NJ, Governor Livingston) putting shots on goal early. Unfortunately for the Cyclones, Eastern also found some chances, scoring an early second half goal when Doutrich netted her third goal of the game in the first minute of the second half.
In the end, opportunities were the deciding factor. The Cyclones closed the gap statistically in the second half, yet were outshot 14-7 and 7-5 in shots on goal. The Eagles, and Kelsey Doutrich in particular capitalized on their chances leading to the 3-0 final.
With the loss, Centenary drops to 2-5-1 on the season and looking to get back in the win column on Saturday when the Cyclones travel to Baltimore for a CSAC tilt at Notre Dame of Maryland University at 1 pm.
