Medaille Women Hang On; Remain Unbeaten in AMCC Play

More news about: Medaille women's team

STEUBENVILLE, OH - The Medaille College women's soccer team received a strong outing from goalkeeper Denay O'Connor along with a pair of goals from rookies to hold on for a (2-1) road victory against Franciscan University.  The win keeps the Lady Mavs unbeaten in AMCC play.

If you were to just look at the stats it would seem that Medaille was outplayed and not victorious.  However, despite being outshot (23-12) in the game the Lady Mavs made the most of their opportunities as rookie Kristen Bachman tallied the first goal of the game in the 37th minute off an assist from Candis Kapuscinski to give Medaille a (1-0) edge, which they would carry into halftime.  It was Kapuscinski's fifth assist in the last two games.

The second half would see Kapuscinski double the Lady Mavs lead when she registered an unassisted marker in the 58th minute.  She tied the team lead with her sixth goal of the year and she now leads the Lady Mavs in total points with (18).  The Lady Mavs were seemingly on their way to an impressive shutout courtesy of the (12) saves by O'Connor, however, the Barons found the back of the net in the 89th minute to cut the score in half.  They would not be able to tally again and Medaille claimed the victory.

The win is the third straight for Medaille and the 4th in their last five outings.  They improve to (5-6-0) overall and (3-0-0) in conference play.  They will head to Penn State-Behrend on Wednesday (10/3) to face the Lions in another AMCC match at 1:00pm.
