Inferno Snaps Slide With 4-0 Shutout Victory Over Lions
MILWAUKEE -- It took Alverno College just over 7 minutes to pull ahead of the visiting Finlandia University Lions this afternoon in a nonconference contest at Alverno Field.
The Inferno (3-7) added three more goals, did not allow the Lions (2-8) to attempt a shot in the 4-0 victory and snapped a six-game slide in the process.
Nava Moniriarani put the Inferno in front just 2 seconds into the eighth minute, as she beat her defender one-on-one for a clean shot from the left side of the goal.
Nearly 12 minutes later, Moniriarani connected with Rebecca Fuentes, who scored her third goal of the season from the end line about eight yards out.
The junior midfielder wasn't finished yet, as Moniriarani netted her second goal of the game and seventh of the season on a breakaway in the 34th minute for a 3-0 halftime lead.
Although the Inferno mirrored its first half shot attempts in the second half with 14, the host team only connected for one score in the final period.
Andrea Bowhall's perfect pass off a corner kick found sophomore defender Kaitlyn Gallinatti in the center of the box and she headed the ball just out of the reach of the Lions' goalkeeper for her first-career goal.
Samantha Robinson recorded her second shutout of the season and seventh of her career as the junior goalkeeper saw little action on the Inferno's side of the field most of the day.
Alverno continues nonconference play as it heads to Beloit College for a 4 p.m. game on Wednesday.
