Anna Zambricki's Hat Trick Leads Washington U. Past Carnegie, 3-0

Pittsburgh, Pa., September 30, 2012 — Sophomore Anna Zambricki recorded the second hat trick of her career to lead the No. 11 ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory at Carnegie Mellon University in the University Athletic Association (UAA) opener for both teams on Sunday in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Washington University improves to 9-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while Carnegie Mellon suffers its first loss of the season and drops to 6-1-2, 0-1 in the UAA. The shutout for Washington U. was its third straight and fourth in the last five games.

Zambricki gave the Bears an early 1-0 lead in the third minute as she scored her fifth goal of the year on an assist from senior Emily Gosché. Despite having the lead at half, Carnegie Mellon outshot Washington U. 5-3 in the opening 45 minutes.

Zambricki netted her second goal of the game early in the second half off a flick from freshman Olivia Lillegraven to make it 2-0. She completed the hat trick in the 63rd minute after deflecting a free kick from junior Kate Doyle into the back of the net. Zambricki has a team-leading seven goals this season.

Senior goalkeeper Clara Jaques made four saves in the win and picked up her fourth shutout of the season. Jaques moved into second place on the all-time Washington U. list with 23 career shutouts, and is one shy of setting the all-time school record. Carnegie Mellon outshot Washington U. 8-7 and had a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Washington University continues conference play on Sunday, Oct. 7, against No. 1 ranked Emory University. Game time is set for 11 a.m. and will be streamed live on the Bear Sports Network.

Bear Notebook: Washington U. has won seven-straight meetings between the two teams and leads the all-time series 16-3-3 … The victory for head coach Jim Conlon was his 70th in five seasons at Washington University.
