Cassey Muse Caps Historic Week with Weekly NEWMAC Accolade
NORTON, Mass.- Wheaton College women's soccer senior Cassey Muse (Candia, N.H./Central) capped off a memorable week with the third weekly New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) honor of her career on Monday, as she was named league offensive player of the week.
With today's award, the Lyons have enjoyed five straight weeks in which at least one of their players was recognized with a weekly conference laurel. Muse racked up 12 points and scored two game-winning goals during Wheaton's 3-0 week while becoming just the ninth player in program history to surpass the career 100-point plateau.
Having a hand in four of Wheaton's five goals on Tuesday, including scoring the 95th-minute winner, Muse helped the Lyons knock off previously unbeaten University of Massachusetts at Boston, 5-4.
During Wheaton's 5-0 victory over Simmons College on Thursday, Muse tallied two times including the 14th-minute winner. In the Lyons' final game of the week, a 4-0 win over Mount Holyoke College, she assisted both the winning marker and her team's second goal.
Ranked 16th in the country and tied for third in New England by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), Wheaton is unbeaten in 11 games at 9-0-2, which marks the ninth-longest undefeated stretch in program history. The Lyons are also 3-0 in conference play. Wheaton finishes its four-game homestand on Tuesday against regionally-ranked Springfield College at 4:00 p.m.
