Medaille Women Suffer One Goal Setback at Penn State-Behrend
ERIE, PA - The Medaille College women's soccer team saw its three game win streak snapped as Penn State-Behrend hung on to defeat the Lady Mavs (1-0) in a hard fought AMCC game that saw very few scoring chances.
The teams would play a scoreless first half in which the Lady Mavs outshot the Lions (5-4), but could not find the back of the net. The second half would see the Lions become the aggressors as they took nine shots while Medaille could muster just two. The home team would break through in the 53rd minute when they cashed in on a blast from the top of the box off a pair of touch passes, to grab the lead. Neither team would register another goal as the Lions held on for the win.
Between the posts for Medaille the reigning AMCC Defensive Player of the Week, Denay O'Connor, stopped three of the four shots that were on goal as the Lady Mavs fall to (5-7-0) overall and suffer their first AMCC setback of the season and are now (3-1-0) in conference play. They will look to get back into the win column on Saturday (10/6) when they host Mt. Aloysius College at 5:00pm at Riverside High School in another AMCC showdown. That game is slated as the Lady Mavs "Senior Night" where eight players will be recognized for their contributions to the women's soccer program, the athletic department, and the institution.
