WEBER GRILLS GOLDEN GOAL WINNER AS NJCU OVERCOMES KING'S, 1-0

WILKES-BARRE PA (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | Freshman ALICIA WEBER (Kearny, NJ/Kearny)was recruited as a back-up goalkeeper to sophomore All-Conference stopper BRITTANY HOFFMAN(McMurray, PA/Peters Township), and on October 3, both players proved decisive in New Jersey City University's fifth win of the season. Weber, a converted forward, scored the first goal of her collegiate career just 1:17 into overtime for the golden goal winner, and Hoffman made 10 saves to notch her 10th career shutout as the Gothic Knights defeated King's College (Pa.), 1-0, in one overtime period in a non-conference women's soccer game at McCarthy Stadium.

Weber's only shot of the game and just the seventh of her college career (sixth on goal), came after NJCU applied heavy pressure to open the overtime session. After a corner kick by rookie midfielder KAITLYN LIMA (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) was headed from the far post into the goalmouth by sophomore defender/midfielder OLYMPIA SCIORTINO (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan),Weber, who played just 23 minutes of reserve action, tucked the winner away off a scramble in front for her first collegiate point. Sciortino was credited with her second assist of the season. TheWeber goal came off the only shot for either team in the overtime period.

NJCU, playing its third overtime game of the seasonimproved to 5-6-2 overall and 1-0-2 in overtime in 2012. King's, which outshot NJCU, 12-7, including 10-2 in the second half, dropped to 2-7-1 with the setback. NJCU leads the all-time series, 2-1, and has won in each of the past two seasons.

The game was the 25th overtime contest in the 20-year history of the women's program. NJCU is 6-10-9 all-time in overtime.
