Allegheny Delivers Dominant Performance in 2-0 Victory at Hiram

More news about: Allegheny women's team

HIRAM, Ohio – Allegheny women's soccer converted another dominating effort into a win as the Gators cruised past league-rival Hiram on the road, 2-0. Fresh off its first win in nearly a month, Allegheny started Wednesday's tilt right where it left off over the weekend, and never looked back en route to its first conference win of the campaign.

After a commanding 2-0 victory at Rutgers-Camden on Saturday – that included a 24-6 shot advantage – Allegheny (6-7-1, 1-3-0 NCAC) was all over Hiram from the first touch. The Gators outshot the Terriers, 8-0, in the first half, while senior captain Ashley Lehr snapped the scoreless tie nine minutes into the match off a feed from Michelle Holcomb.

Talented rookie Hannah Zangara stretched the advantage with an unassisted strike in the 63rd minute. The goal, which came amid another strong stretch midway through the second half, marked Zangara's second career finish.

Junior and first-year starter Kylie Mason worked all 90 minutes en route to her second consecutive shutout and sixth clean sheet of the season. She was only tasked to make two saves as the Gators boasted a 14-2 advantage in shots as well as a 6-0 margin in corners.

Although Allegheny has struggled to fulfill its preseason expectations, the recent turnaround following a fantastic start has provided the program with a significant boost as the team enters into the stretch run of conference play. The Gators, who have played in the last two NCAC championship finals, will look to continue the late-season surge when they travel to Kenyon on Saturday.
